IPPT — the Individual Physical Proficiency Test — is the Singapore Armed Forces' standard fitness test. Three stations, 100 points, one result that follows every serviceman through his service life.
Calculate My IPPT Score →| Station | Format | Max points |
|---|---|---|
| Push-ups | As many correct reps as possible in 1 minute | 25 |
| Sit-ups | As many correct reps as possible in 1 minute | 25 |
| 2.4km run | Timed run, scored in 10-second bands | 50 |
Points for every performance are set by 14 age groups (under-22, then three-year bands up to 58–60), so the same reps earn more points as you age. You must score at least 1 point in every station — a zero anywhere is an automatic fail. NSmen pass at 51; NSFs, Regulars and pre-enlistee qualification sit at 61. Try the scoring yourself on the IPPT Calculator and see the full points table.
SAF servicemen across their whole career: pre-enlistees (voluntarily, for the PTP reduction), full-time NSFs, Regulars, and NSmen every year of their operationally-ready cycle. SPF and SCDF personnel also take IPPT under their services. Who exactly is obliged — and which PES grades are exempt — is covered in IPPT Eligibility.
IPPT used to have five stations — sit-ups, standing broad jump, chin-ups, the 4×10m shuttle run and the 2.4km run — scored as pass/fail per station. The revised system announced in 2014 and rolled out from 2015 cut it to the current three stations with a single 100-point score, precisely so that every improvement counts: one more rep or ten seconds faster always moves your total, and awards reward the total rather than all-or-nothing station passes. NS FIT replaced the old IPT/RT remedial system in 2021.
NAPFA is the schools' fitness test (six items, including a 1.6km/2.4km run by level) run by the Ministry of Education. For pre-enlistees in JC, MI, Polytechnic or ITE, the school-administered modified NAPFA doubles as their pre-enlistee IPPT — results flow to CMPB, and 61+ points earns the same PTP reduction. Different tests, linked pipelines.
Tests are conducted at Fitness Conditioning Centres (Bedok, Khatib, Kranji, CMPB) and during ICT, booked through OneNS. A session takes about 1.5 hours. New to it? Start with booking, what to bring and what to wear.
Individual Physical Proficiency Test — the Singapore Armed Forces fitness test of push-ups, sit-ups and a 2.4km run, scored out of 100 by age group.
Three since the 2015 revamp: push-ups (25 points), sit-ups (25 points) and the 2.4km run (50 points). Before 2015 there were five stations, including chin-ups and standing broad jump.
No. NAPFA is the schools test. But for JC, MI, Polytechnic and ITE students, the school modified NAPFA counts as their pre-enlistee IPPT for the PTP reduction.
