IPPT HSP Guide — The Age-35 Health Screening, Explained

If you are 35 or older, there is a medical gate before IPPT that has nothing to do with fitness. Here is exactly how the SAF Health Screening Programme works.

Who needs HSP, and when

All IPPT-eligible NSmen aged 35 and above must complete the SAF Health Screening Programme (HSP) every year before attempting IPPT or NS FIT, and only those classified Low Cardiac Risk may participate. For NSmen the annual requirement runs from age 35 through 45. The old IPPT-FFI has been part of HSP since 2011. (All points on this page are from MINDEF's published answers on ask.gov.sg.)

No date yet?If you have not received an HSP date 2–3 months into your IPPT window, MINDEF advises contacting the NS Contact Centre at 1800-367-6767.

Booking IPPT before clearing HSP

You can book an IPPT session up to 3 months in advance before completing HSP — but you cannot take the test unless HSP is completed by the test date. MINDEF's advice for 35+ NSmen: book your IPPT/NS FIT after you clear your HSP requirements. Our calculator reminds you automatically when you enter an NSman age of 35+.

Why this exists

HSP screens for medical conditions that could make strenuous testing unsafe — it protects you, not the bureaucracy. Do not try to "train through" a screening flag: complete the process, get your Low Cardiac Risk outcome, then test. See also the NSman IPPT Guide and IPPT Eligibility.

FAQs

Do I need HSP to take IPPT at 35?

Yes. IPPT-eligible NSmen aged 35 and above must complete the SAF Health Screening Programme every year before IPPT or NS FIT, and only a Low Cardiac Risk outcome permits participation (MINDEF).

Can I book IPPT before completing HSP?

You can book up to 3 months in advance, but you cannot take the test unless HSP is completed by the test date.

How do I book HSP?

You do not book it yourself — your NS unit administrator initiates the HSP review when your IPPT window opens. If no date arrives 2–3 months into your window, contact the NS Contact Centre at 1800-367-6767.
